Every year when Summer rolls around, the weather is beyond hot and I’m ready for those long awaited days at the beach. One thing missing; a bathing suit I feel both comfortable and stylish in. And by the time the season starts, the racks are almost bare and you are left with options like ugly and uglier! But luckily for the full figured woman style options have become much better over the years (especially when shopping online) which has provided us with a much larger array of options and selection. Check out our Killer Kurves Swimsuit Guide below where we share with you our top picks for summer!
While shopping for a swimsuit you should keep the following in mind…
Body Type
Know your body type and know what flatters you best. Here are some tips:
Small on Top?: When small on top look for suits that provide an under-wire or padding. A bandeau style or ruffled top are great for women with a smaller bust.
Bigger Bust?: Having a bigger bust means you require more support. Halter tops can be a good choice providing support while allowing you to make adjustments to the neck tie. Look for wide straps as they are much more comfortable than spaghetti straps.
Short Torso?: If you have a short torso you may want to stay away from skirts and lean more towards a higher cut leg. A solid colour and plunging neckline will give you a longer, leaner look.
Long Torso? Two piece swimsuits look great on a long torso, but one should be careful when buying a one piece suit because some are cut very short. I have personally experienced this many times. Trying on a suit, getting super excited only to discover it won’t make it over my bust! If I manage to get the straps over my shoulders it usually results in the bottom of the suit pulling up giving an unappealing look. Cute skirts and hip embellishments look great on a long torso and can help a self conscious girl cover her hips and thighs.
Style Preference
After years and years of swimming you’ve probably tested a lot of different styles; some you loved and others not so much. Knowing what your preferred style is helps narrow down the hunt. High neck, racing style, Halter, bandeau, bikini, tankini and swim dress are some of the many different swim suit styles! My personal favourite is the bandeau style with the optional halter strap. My least favourite is the tankini because I don’t like how the top floats in the water.
