Melissa Shannon – Fashion Editor

Fashion has been an integral part of my life since I can remember. From dressing Barbie at age 4, reading my first Vogue at age 11, watching Clueless on repeat to walking the runway at LG Fashion week, it has and will continue to inspire me. We haven’t always had the best relationship, fashion and I. There were times in my life I couldn’t dress the way my friends did nor could I express my fun, playful youth because plus size clothes were frumpy and dumpy. Thankfully times have changed for the better and continue to evolve for us curvier gals. Growing up with limited options for clothing fueled my dreams of wanting to make a difference in an industry geared towards one body type. In 2009, I was approached by Ben Barry to walk the runway for Cheri Milaney during LG Fashion week. It was the first exciting highlight of my modeling career and shortly after Ben signed me to his agency, Ben Barry Agency. Since joining the agency in 2009 I have been delighted to work for such clients as The Steven & Chris Show, Canadian Living, local boutique Lola & Gigi, Jessica Biffi for Addition Elle and collaborate with well known Toronto photographers, stylists & industry professionals. While I feel that this is still the beginning I continue to look forward to new and exciting endeavours to further build a solid fashionable foundation for the curvy Canadian woman.”Women should be measured by the lives we lead, not by the size we wear” – Elizabeth Patch

Alicia Gilby – Beauty Editor

As someone who has been plus sized the majority of my life, my relationship with fashion has certainly had its high and low points. As a teenager, watching my friends find cute outfits on every shelf as I had to wade through racks upon racks of not-so-great clothing was difficult, and I would be lying if I said at times this didn’t take a toll on my self esteem.Luckily, after starting my own beauty blog a year and a half ago, I have come to realize that beauty is less about the way you appear on the outside and more about the person you are on the inside and how you treat others.Don’t get me wrong, makeup is great. Big cheek, little cheek, large lips, small lips, it doesn’t matter, makeup doesn’t discriminate. It can turn any outfit into a thing of beauty, and give you that much needed boost of confidence. However, the beauty industry and community is about so much more. My love for makeup has allowed me to connect with beautiful women all over the world who share my passion for making others look and feel beautiful. Makeup and beauty have also allowed me to educate others about, and give back to, those who are less fortunate. Through various types of posts, my beautiful subscribers and I have been able to raise money for several charities including the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the Canadian Red Cross, and have been able to provide awareness to others about the HIV-AIDS virus. I can’t wait to share my passion for the beauty industry (and my slight makeup addiction) with all of you!“For attractive lips, speak only words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For poise walk with the knowledge that you will never walk alone. People, even more than things have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed. Never throw out anyone” –Audrey Hepburn.
