Jibri has launched her new pieces for Spring 2012. Jibri may not be for everyone (especially those who like to play is safe with basics and blacks) but we find her colourful and avant-garde approach to plus size fashion to be refreshing and if anything very fun to look at! What do you think, would you rock these looks or would your admire from afar?

PLUS SIZE FASHION… UNDER THE GUNN

Tim Gunn is scoring points with plus size woman everywhere after the style guru made some truthful accusations regarding the lack of clothing options for plus size women.  Best known as the brutally honest, “make it work” mentor to contestants on Project Runway, Tim Gunn is starting the New Year off with a new daytime talk show.  Tim will co-host The Revolution, a new health and lifestyle show with Ty Pennington (interior design/art), Harley Pasternak (trainer and nutritionist to every hot celeb out there), Dr. Jennifer Ashton (OB/Gyn/women’s health issues), and Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry (relationship expert).  The show follows one woman’s personal journey to transform all areas of her life over the course of five months … or five days in TV land, as Tim puts it.

Tim Gunn recently chatted with Marie Claire and made some honest statements regarding fashion for plus size woman.  Read more from the Marie Clair interview below.

Your opinion on fashion for plus size woman who need something to wear now
“It’s so difficult. Have you seen most of the plus-size sections out there? It’s horrifying. Whoever’s designing for plus-size doesn’t get it. The entire garment needs to be reconceived. You can’t just take a size 8 and make it larger.”

How do you think the fashion industry responds to the need for better plus-size options?
“In my travels, I’ve been an advocate for larger women. I’ve been talking to designers, but only a half-dozen make an effort. Most say, “I don’t want a woman who’s a size 10 or 11 wearing my clothes.” Well, shame on you! It’s not realistic. We need to address real women with real needs. At Parsons, we had fit models that ranged in size from 2 to 10. We’ve got to reconceive clothes for all sizes. Sometimes I say, “I’m going to do a clothing line!” I’d love nothing more to respond to those designers who refuse to address it.”

You’re going to start designing?!
“I’m seriously considering it! Just because I want to be a part of the solution. I’m so tired of giving them so few options. I end up always saying, “I’m taking you to Lane Bryant because at least they understand you.” But there’s a stigma.”

So, until we can all wear Tim by Tim Gunn, what trademark tips can you leave us with?
“The three most important things to consider are silhouette, proportion, and fit. When those are in harmony and balance, you’ll look good in anything. Also, embrace your shape! Everyone has a best feature, so find clothes and accessories to accentuate those, whether it’s your shoulders or your long legs! Above all, don’t be a slave to fleeting trends — invest in essentials.”

The positive feedback from this interview was overwhelming with women who all want the same thing… more options! The girls of Killer Kurves are hoping Tim will turn these thoughts into reality sooner than later and that his designs will be available to the Canadian plus size women because we just adore Tim and know he will create something worth wearing!!

Tuesday April 14th, 2009 is when everything changed for designer Sunny Fong. He became the second winner of Project Runway Canada! I remember the thrill of the win because there was no other winner in my eyes. Since that day he has created beautiful, sophisticated & adorned clothing for every woman when he reinvented Vawk.

1. Alison: Spring/Summer 2010 2. Leila: Spring/Summer 2011 3. Kathryn: Spring/Summer 2012 4. Kartina: Spring/Summer 2012

Toronto Fashion Week has never been more exciting for the curvy Canadian woman as Fong always includes models of various size, age and race; something that we all applaud him for. What an astounding feeling to attend Fong’s show & see the beautiful handcrafted garments grace the curves of full figured models. Not only is Sunny a talented and creative soul he also doesn’t exclude anyone one from what I believe to be some of Canada’s most stunning clothing. Kudos Sunny, we look forward to many more curves on the runway.

WHITNEY THOMPSON, ALLISTYLE @ GUSSIED UP

The other night we were invited to an exciting event here in Toronto to support featuring Whitney Thompson (winner of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10) for plus size brand Allistyle, at Gussied Up. If you haven’t heard us rave about this adorable plus size boutique before, then here is your chance to! We absolutely adore this little fabulous shop just a few steps south of Dupont and Bathurst. Created by Victoria McGroarty, Gussied Up carries a wide assortment of merchandise, from basic tanks and leggings, cardigans and everyday tops to party dresses and designer plus size labels. They also carry Damn Heels, jewellery from local talent, fabulous purses & clutches and more! At Gussied Up every piece that Victoria brings into her shop goes against the traditional “too old lady” or “too hootchy” problem with plus size clothing. All the styles she retails are sexy, sophisticated and  we swoon each of them. So if you are in the area we highly recommend you stop by! Here is a sneak peak inside the store and the event…

Me (Karyn from Killer Kurves) and Victoria from Gussied Up

Part of the Toronto Beauty Blogger gang: Karen from Curvy Canadian, Courtney from Glitter Spell, Sarah from Garters & Stockings, model Liis Windischmann from LOU LOU 14+ and On The Curves Events, and Me again, Karyn from Killer Kurves.

Karyn with the guest of honour for the evening Whitney Thompson, the first plus size winner from America’s Next Top Model cycle 10. She is an absolute doll and a pleasure to meet! So glad she loves her Canadian plus size girls and made the trip all the way to Gussied Up to support Allistyle and Gussied Up.

A cute signed glossy of Whitney Thompson, she seemed to think I resemble her from when she was on ANTM and wrote “To My Twin…” haha too cute!

Thanks for the great time!

xoxo Karyn @ Killer Kurves

Last night I had my pic taken along side the fabulous Canadian designer Jessica Biffi (@jessicabiffi). She was a finalist on Project Runway Canada, is the mastermind behind Canadian plus size retailer Addition-Elle’s Jessica Biffi Collection, and a totally lovely and sweet girl! It is always fun running into her at events, and this time she was showing off her fabulous Covet by Biffi accessories line at the Sex and The City Movie 2 Party!
