I know we have mentioned the Addition Elle Colour Block Dress before in an earlier posts; as well, plus size model Ashley Graham was wearing it when we met her and it looked amazing on her. So this is it! I am going out to find this dress in store and am buying it! I cannot deny my love for it any longer!!! Be back soon hopefully with the dress in hand and with pics! xo Karyn

After reading Melissa’s fabulous post on Spring 2012′s colour blocking trend, I started wondering if this shockingly bright and super fun trend would also work well for makeup. Would a hot pink lipstick look nice when paired with a lime green eye? Could a bright yellow eyeliner be paired with a deep violet cheek? To find the answer, I went in search of colour blocking beauty pictures, and what I found is indeed quite fun.

While I understand that the majority of us couldn’t pull off the following looks on a day to day basis, I believe that these pictures serve as a great inspiration for creating your own colourful ‘colour blocking’ makeup look. I for one am excited to experiment with this new trend, and will be sure to include it in some upcoming makeup tutorial posts.

Can you see yourself sporting any of these looks this spring and summer? Be sure to let us know in the comment section.

SPRING 2012: COLOUR BLOCKING

Black is a staple in most plus size woman’s closets and its no wonder why when the majority of plus size clothing is offered in black. Black is that safe, slimming colour that is so easy to wear and matches everything. Today we are putting those thoughts to rest as Spring/Summer 2012 is all about Colour and Colour Blocking. Colour blocking is when 2 or more complementary colours are placed side by side. The complementary colors are the colors which are directly opposite from one another on the color wheel. Complementary colors are contrasting and stand out against each other.

Depending on how daring you are you may decide to stick with complementary colours such are fuchsia & turquoise or yellow & blue. If you love colour and want to play up this trend then go for the purple & orange or blue & red combos. Whatever your taste remember to keep accessories to solid colours and understated to keep a clean look.

1. Nordstrom Olivia Moon Drape Neck Colour Block top blue $50.79, 2. Nordstrom Olivia Moon Drape Neck Colour Block top pink $50.79, 3. Colour Block Sweater Lane Bryant Pink/Black $59.20, 4. Colour Block Sweater Lane Bryant white/yellow $59.20

1. Nordstrom Not Your Daughter’s Jeans ‘Alisha’ Skinny Stretch Jeans $120.63, 2. Forever 21 Basic Skinny Jean Blue $29.80, 3. ASOS Curve Green Skinny Jean $58.48,  4. Forever 21 Basic Skinny Jean Fuschia $29.80

While some women have no problems wearing colour it can be quite frightening for our classic black dressing fashionistas. I personally love colour but I only found that out by trying it on. My best piece of advice when going out to shop for that new colourful item is to wear make-up. When you wear make up your natural skin tone is evened out and doesn’t make you looked “washed out” against bright colours. Not everyone can wear every colour so don’t get disappointed if a colour you love doesn’t suit you.

1. Monif C ‘Elsa’ Purple/Orange ponte knit dress. $198.00, 2. City Chic Tangerine Splice Tunic $62.00, 3. Monif C Citron and Navy ruched convertible dress $215.00, 4. Torrid Colour Block Party Dress $68.50, 5. Nordstrom Sejour Asymmetric Hem Colour Block Dress $135.45

One of my favourite colours of the season is coral. It looks good on a majority of people and is a great splash of colour paired with black or white. I’ve included a couple of my favourite coral and pink colour blocking pieces.

I love the colour blocking trend because majority of the choices will come in at least 2 colour schemes. Sometimes its hard to choose just one! Colour blocking even works with your shoes and accessories!

1. Aldo ‘Tulis’ Flat blue $70.00, 2. Aldo ‘Bolus’ $110.00, 3. Aldo ‘Tulis’ Flats pink $70.00, 4. Macy’s Jessica Simpson Peep Toe Pumps $103.59, 5. Nordstrom Nine West ‘Pitera’ Wedge $94.12, 6. Macy’s Kensie Girl Pump $80.32

1. Juicy Couture Colour Block Wristlet $118, 2. ASOS Frosted Perspex Clutch £18.00, 3. ASOS Colourblock iphone Case £8.00

The winter months are long so brighten your day by adding a new colour item to your wardrobe and greet spring in style!
